Elevated Production Levels Sustained at Gordon Creek Project; Permitting Underway for New Drilling

Vancouver, British Columbia, October 12, 2006---Thunderbird Energy Corp. (TSX-V: TBD "Thunderbird") announced today that natural gas production levels at its Gordon Creek Project in Carbon County, Utah have been sustained at rates of 900 mcf/day to 1.1 mmcf/day during recent weeks. The Company recently completed the maintenance portion of the Phase II workover program announced September 7, 2006.

During the course of the workover program on producing well 19-14-8, the service rig encountered very high bottom hole pressures which necessitated postponement of the portion of the program designed to open up new productive zones by drilling out bridge plugs and repositioning water pumps. The program will be resumed when additional equipment can be secured to deal with the higher reservoir pressures. A decision was also made to postpone work on the presently shut in 19-14-8B as it is anticipated that this well will likely encounter similar pressures.

"We are very pleased that we have maintained substantially higher production levels three months after the Phase I workover program," stated Cameron White, President of Thunderbird. "We are also very encouraged by the fact that the reservoir pressures remain strong. The sustained production levels and high reservoir pressures bode well for the planned drilling program and ultimately, for the longevity of the field."

Permitting is underway for an initial six drilling locations and field inspections are scheduled for later this week. Two new wells are planned for this fall, the timing of which will depend on permitting, rig availability and weather conditions.

Thunderbird Energy is a Canadian based oil and gas company that owns a 50% interest in the Gordon Creek natural gas field in the State of Utah, USA. Thunderbird's other holdings include a New Brunswick oil and gas exploration project in partnership adjacent to the Stoney Creek field.
